Ringeriks-Kraft

Ringeriks-Kraft has more than 21 500 grid customers and delivers power through 2 400 km of grid lines. Ringeriks-Kraft has invested 250 MNOK in the grid the last 8 years, and is planning to invest 100 MNOK in the grid the next 5 years. In the period 2012-2014, another 50 MNOK was invested when AMS was introduced to all households. Ringeriks-Kraft, with 21 500 installed AMS meters, is the Norwegian market leader. The company also sells power to private and industrial customers, primarily in the regions of Ringerike and Hole. Its AMS investments pave the way for extending the offering to all customers and in more regions.

Industrial Research and Development

eSmart, Innovation Norway and other partners are funding an Industrial Research and Development (IRD) project aimed at developing the eSmart Data and eSmart system platform. Sogn og Fjordane Energi, Fredrikstad Energi and Big Data Energy Services are demanding customers and participate in the project by specifying customer needs, testing prototypes and designing the products and ensuring that the technology developed has no match in the market today. Prototypes are currently running in Texas ERCOT-market, and Smart Grid pilots both on the West coast and on Hvaler islands.

Smart Energy Hvaler is Norway's largest Smart Grid pilot, with over 8500 smart metering points. The projects test smart grid technologies, as well as being a test bed for companies willing to try out new technologies. The Smart Energy Hvaler operates on eSmart's Connected Grid solution.

DeVID

DeVid is a national demonstration and verification project for Smart Grid in Norway. eSmart has a key role in managing Work Package 6 structuring the Use-Cases for Smart Grids, and also participating heavily in WP5 considering end-user flexibility. Today around 30 cottages are directly controlled by the eSmart platform, helping the utility optimize the load balance in DeVid Flex.

Southern African Power Pool (SAPP)

EMPOWER

EMPOWER is a 3-year research and innovation project with a budget of 50MNOK, starting January 2015. The objective of the project is to develop an entirely new energy market in Europe where consumers can buy and sell locally produced energy from solar panels, micro wind turbines and othe decentralized energy production sources. The result will be the offloading of central and regional electricity to consumers. A new market design will be developed and tested in three demonstration areas in Norway, Germany and Malta.

EMPOWER includes partners from Spain (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya), Switzerland (University of St. Gallen), Germany, Malta and Norway (NCE Smart Energy Markets, Schneider Electric, Fredrikstad Energi Nett and eSmart Systems).

ChargeFlex

The objective of ChargeFlex is to develop software to enable 25% increase in EV-charging capacity in a local grid through smart management of demand response.

The escalating popularity of EVs and the increasing demand for charging puts pressure on the power grids. To meet the demand, grid operators will need to upgrade local distribution grids – or benefit from solutions such as the ones ChargeFlex sets out to develop.
